While the Victorians may have invented holiday cards, our tradition began in 2009 on Rausch street in San Francisco. That year, the founders of Airbnb hand-mailed paper cards to our hosts, many of whom they knew by name. Our community grew – as did our tradition – evolving to allow guests and hosts to send holiday greetings to one another with just a few clicks.
On December 15, Airbnb launched our 2016 holiday card. Members of the Airbnb community designed, personalized, and sent their appreciation to the hosts and guests they met throughout the year. Our community sent nearly 2 million cards this year, marking a 400+% increase over our last holiday card release. These cards were sent to 187 countries and were written in 27 languages. Thanks to the spirit and generosity of our community, our holiday tradition continues. This year was the brightest yet!
